knowledge #9: Independent Publishing Resource Center

The IPRC or Independent Publishing Resource Center is a non-profit organization that provides people with creative expressions to resources and tools for creation of independently published media and art. Since 1998, the place has encouraged the growth of a visual and literary publishing community to gather at the space, exchange ideas and work on projects together. This includes artwork, writing, zines, books, websites, comics and graphic novels. They help people to discover themselves through art, and inspire others to publish and share their work. It’s Portland’s DIY artistic and literary community centre. They offer a workspace and tools for production and distribution of zines, comics, hand-bound books and artwork. There are two art galleries and one of the nation’s largest circulating zine libraries. They also offer educational workshops on a variety of subjects related to publishing such as; bookbinding, design and publishing software, comic, zine, chapbook, web publishing, silk-screen and others.
